The Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary in Corella, Bohol has been set up to both conserve and promote the Bohol Tarsier. The sanctuary consists of 167 hectares where the Tarsiers are protected and allowed to roam free in their natural environment. The smallest primate in the world. Tarsiers have strikingly huge eyes, they are nocturnal and arboreal. They have long legs and anklebones which are well adapted for leaping from stem to stem.Diet consists of live animal prey such as insects, crickets and grasshoppers. Tarsiers can turn their head 180 degrees in either direction.
Within the sanctuary is the Tarsier Research and Development Center complete with visitors information, exhibition area and souvenir counter. Observation decks have been set up within the sactuary so visitors can view the Tarsiers in areas where they are commonly found. |
